https://easthamptonps.org Mary E. Clark is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in East Hampton, Connecticut. Mary holds degrees from Providence College, Simmons University and University of New England. Mary began her teaching career in Wellesley, Massachusetts as a middle school social studies teacher. Moving to Connecticut, Mary was a founding faculty member of Two Rivers Magnet Middle School as part of the Capitol Region Education Council’s (CREC) efforts to create diverse magnet schools in the Hartford region dedicated to social justice. After twelve years as a classroom teacher and teacher leader, Mary transitioned to CREC's Institute of Teaching and Learning where she served as an Educational Consultant and Assistant Director. She provided professional learning and technical assistance to school districts across the state of Connecticut in the areas of curriculum and instruction, cultivating cultural competency, K-12 literacy instruction, student-led inquiry, school climate, educator evaluation and overall school improvement. After five years, Mary joined the East Hampton Public Schools where she served as Principal of the Center Elementary School. Mary worked alongside her talented team to develop a school of excellence, balancing a strong school culture supporting the intermediate learner with only the highest expectations for teaching and learning. As Director of Curriculum and Instruction Mary supports a culture of continuous improvement at every developmental stage in the district. Mary has presented at the Connecticut Reading Association, Magnet Schools of America, the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education and the Connecticut School Climate Conference.

John Clements is Co-Principal of Nipmuc Regional High School. He began his career at Nipmuc twenty-one years ago as an English teacher. He spent seven years as an assistant principal and is currently in his ninth year as principal. Mr. Clements is passionate about evolving education to meet the needs of the modern world. He is the recipient of the 2017 Massachusetts Principal of the Year Award.
Mr. Clements is a proponent of the accreditation process as a way to promote a culture of continuous improvement in our schools. He has worked closely with the NEASC, including chairing NEASC’s committee to design the 2020 Standards for Accreditation, serving six years Commissioner, and chairing accreditation visiting teams. He is the recipient of NEASC’s 2016 Jacob Ludes III Leadership Award. Mr. Clements is a believer in the power of professional sharing as a source of professional growth and development. He is a founder of The Inspired Learning Project, a network of learners and leaders who share resources, practices, and professional support to enhance opportunities for modern learning. Along with Mrs. Moran, he co-created the Launching Modern Learning course in order to guide other educators in building schools that inspire. He is a past president of the Blackstone Valley Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports innovative educational programming to assist students’ development of 21st-century skills by connecting classrooms with industry. |
MARY ANNE MORAN |

Mary Anne Moran is Principal of Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton, Massachusetts. She began her career as an elementary educator and quickly made her way to the secondary level. She has been a member of the Nipmuc community for the last 16 years transitioning to the role of assistant principal and then co-principal eight years ago. Ms. Moran was named 2016 Massachusetts Assistant Principal of the Year. With a passion for what it possible and an endless curiosity about our educational system, Ms. Moran spends much of her time reading, leading, and learning about reimagining and redesigning our schools for the modern world. With a focus on student voice and embracing the idea that we are all learners, she has worked to create and implement structures at Nipmuc to ensure that all members of the school community are a part of the journey to make school meaningful, relevant, and engaging. Ms. Moran regularly shares her passion for this work with educators from across the country through professional development sessions, a co-authored online course (Launching Modern Learning), and her work as a member of the Inspired Learning Team.

Paul Smith |
Paul K. Smith is the Superintendent of Schools in East Hampton, Connecticut. Paul holds degrees from Boston University, the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester) and University of Connecticut. Paul began his career teaching music for 15 years in Massachusetts and Connecticut prior to serving as High School Assistant Principal at Killingly High High School (CT) for 4 years and Principal of Bolton High School (CT) for 8 years. Paul's work as Superintendent has focused on developing a culture of compassion as the cornerstone to an ambitious vision of excellence for all children. Paul has presented at the NEASC Annual Conference and the NEASC Showcase of Model Programs. Paul is also a recipient of the NEASC Jacob Ludes III Leadership Award. In addition, Paul is active as a clinician with the Connecticut Arts Administrators Association and at the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music.
